The Story of Our Hair
This workshop supports cultural identity, self-esteem, and inclusive education, and has been well received by youth and community audiences. Sessions can be high school levels and this workshop ranges from 60 to 90 minutes.
Who this program is for;
The program is especially beneficial for students who may be navigating questions about identity, self-image, and belonging while developing a stronger sense of confidence and pride in who they are.
Students will learn:
- Basic hair science
- Hair diversity and inclusion
- Black history, hair, and cultural identity
- Hair before, during, and after slavery
- Eurocentric standard for hair
- Prominent people of history
- Modernization of braids
- Confidence and a positive self-image
- Respect for different cultures and identities
- Self-expression through hair, culture, and personal identity
